Kelly Smith, Manager of School Partnerships, San Francisco
Proud owner of a Super Bowl ring — a fact that makes her borderline divine in the eyes of her football-loving colleague Chris Jackson — Kelly danced for the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Lakers from her late teens to her late twenties, a decade filled with travel, triumphs, and many a high kick and tumbling routine. After hanging up her pom poms (a solemn ceremony involving a silent 8-count and a teary-eyed basket toss), Kelly decided to forge a career in education, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Chapman University before working for a variety of companies, including Leap Frog Schoolhouse, Scientific Learning, Ex'pression College for Digital Arts, and some place called Kaplan. As Catalyst's Manager of School Partnerships in San Francisco, Kelly promotes our ACT and SAT programs throughout the Bay, from Palo Alto to Walnut Creek and San Mateo to San Ramon. (Needless to say, Kelly is a very big fan of Waze.) When she's not helping students get into college or raising awareness for guidance counselors ravaged by helicopter parents and tiger moms, Kelly enjoys spending quiet evenings at home, watching John Hughes movies, and indulging her obsession with '80s hip hop.
Why She Works for Catalyst
Felt, if ever there was a group of people who could use some dance instruction...
How the Universe Has Punished Her for Being a Freakishly Good Test-Taker
Because all of Kelly's friends and family know about her dance background, she has yet to attend a wedding, birthday party, bar mitzvah, sweet sixteen, quinceañera, or graduation party where the host doesn't ask her to start the Electric Slide.
